WHO was alerted to the emergence of Covid-19 by its own office in …

by Ace Damon

The first warning regarding the emergence of the new coronavirus was given to the World Health Organization (WHO) by the entity’s own office in China, and not by the country’s authorities. According to the health arm of the United Nations (UN), the Chinese WHO office identified cases of “viral pneumonia” on December 31 in Wuhan, Covid-19’s first epicenter, from press reports. With that, the WHO questioned the Chinese authorities, who responded to the request for information on January 3. WHO’s actions in relation to the pandemic have been the target of criticism by US President Donald Trump, who accuses the organization of “not being independent” in relation to China and of ignoring reports about the virus.
