As the family of consoles grew with the most powerful models, many developers chose to give different options to prioritize resolution or framerate.
Talk about a quality mode or a performance mode is usually something familiar in the possibilities of the new games on Xbox One X.
But this is not always the case. Some games prioritize native 4Ks, something that Id Software does not seem to agree on.
And in Rage 2, Bethesda studio decided that Rage 2 prioritizes performance to deliver 60fps by reducing the resolution to 1080p.
That’s what Id Software’s director of software, Tim Willits, suggested when talking about Rage 2’s graphical options on Xbox One X to Windows Central.
It was a decision that was made in the studio for both Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro, the focus of Rage 2 for the action would not look so good at 4K / 30 fps, so they preferred to crash at 60fps.
In Willits’s words, “For simplicity, on powerful consoles, it works at 1080p / 60 fps. On basic hardware, it runs at 30 fps. On the PC, it is unlocked. We prefer speed than the 4K for the improved consoles “.
So we know that Rage 2 will opt for stable performance at 30fps on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and will opt for a better framerate on Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro and depend on the hardware will vary on PC.
The decision on powerful consoles may be somewhat disappointing for resolution-obsessed, as offering a better visual quality (with more effects) or better resolution (at the expense of the boards) could be a valid choice.
Rage 2 will be available for pre-order at the Xbox Store, knowing it will be released on May 14 on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC.
