North Korean leader Kim Jong-un chaired a military meeting at which the Korean Workers' Party presented a new political strategy stipulating increased nuclear deterrence, according to state news agency KCNA.

According published the agency, the Central Military Commission meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) was the first time that Kim Jong-un appeared in public since May 1, when the leader opened a fertilizer factory in Sunchon, north of the capital Pyongyang.

The military meeting covered organizational issues about the country's armed forces and the North Korean leader signed a decree on the reform of the military command system. KCNA said that new policies to increase North Korea's nuclear deterrence, in addition to strengthening the strategic Armed Forces, were presented at the meeting.

"Today, the armed forces of the DPRK face a heavy historical task to arm themselves with the revolutionary idea, line and policies of the WPK, as required by the current situation, to safely defend the party, the revolution, the country, the people and socialism, reinforcing the invincible military force in every way (…) ", said an order signed by Kim, as published by KCNA this Saturday (23).

According to the agency, the order was issued on May 23, but it is unclear exactly when the military meeting was held.

There are rumors that the North Korean leader has had health problems. The opening of the Sunchon factory earlier this month was the first time that Kim made a public appearance in almost three weeks.
