Alberto Fernández expressed admiration for former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and assured that he will maintain relations with Brazil to strengthen Mercosur, Deputy Paulo Pimenta (PT-RS) told Sputnik Brasil.
The petista met on Thursday (5) with the president-elect of the neighboring country in Buenos Aires. Pimenta was part of a delegation of deputies who traveled to Argentina to talk to Peronist Sergio Massa, who is expected to take over the presidency of the local parliament.
"President Alberto has made a point of expressing the affection, respect and admiration he has for President Lula," he told Sputnik Brazil.
The delegation also included the mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), and deputies Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), Baleia Rossi (MDB-SP), Eumar Nascimento (DEM-BA) and Orlando Silva (PCdoB- SP).
Sergio Massa invited the Brazilians to meet with Fernández, an agenda that was not foreseen initially. The meeting was also attended by future Argentine Foreign Minister Felipe Solá and future ambassador to Brasilia, Daniel Scioli.
"They made very clear the absolute willingness to build together with Brazil a unity, a partnership that strengthens South America, so we can face neoliberalism, which tries to keep the region as a producer of raw materials and resist allowing us to move forward in a sovereign policy. of science, technology, industrialization and improving the quality of life for our people, "said Pimenta.
Following the meeting, Rodrigo Maia said Fernández had sent a message to President Jair Bolsonaro, urging the two governments to work with "respect" and "appreciation" in the name of a "common destiny."
'Strengthening of Mercosur'
Pimenta confirmed the willingness of the future Argentine president to maintain good "institutional" relations with Brazil, in addition to defending Mercosur.
"He reaffirmed that from the institutional point of view he intends to maintain a relationship with Brazil to further strengthen the economic partnership and all that is necessary for the strengthening of Mercosur," said the deputy.

Recently, Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said that Brazil could leave Mercosur with the plate victory led by Fernández and Vice Cristina Kirchner in Argentina. Bolsonaro admitted that all options were on the table. He also threatened to isolate the neighboring country in the bloc. This week was held in Bento Gonçalves (RS) the summit of Mercosur.
Following Fernández's triumph in the elections, Bolsonaro lamented the result and said the Argentine people had "chosen badly". The Peronist, in turn, called the president of Brazil "racist, misogynistic and violent". In addition, on several occasions he showed support for Lula.
The Brazilian representative will not attend the inauguration of his colleague, scheduled for December 10, breaking a diplomatic tradition. In its place will go the Minister of Citizenship, Osmar Terra.
