Catholic Church creates ecclesial organism for the Amazon

The Catholic Church has announced the creation of an episcopal body for the Amazon, which will be led by Brazilian cardinal Claudio Hummes. According to a Vatican statement, the organ’s objective, called the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon, is to promote “synodality among the churches of the region”, to open new paths for the Church and for an integral ecology in the PanAmazonian region. It also has the proposal to be an “effective instrument” to materialize the proposals presented at the Amazon Synod, held in October last year, and a “link that animates other ecclesial and socio-environmental networks and initiatives at the continental and international level”, according to informed the Vatican News.
